A Note on Raku Pottery and Glazes
During firing, Raku glazes usually come into direct contact with combustable material,
such as wood sawdust or other organic substances. They are also often composed of
metals, cobalts and other elements which can be toxic to live plants.
We will always tell you when a Raku pottery item is safe for plants or food use--if we have not
done so, the piece should be lined or used for decorative purposes only.
In this Raku Pottery Gallery, the vases are not food or plant safe, and additionally are glazed
only on the outside, so water will leak out of them. First place a liner inside the vase
to hold water and keep the plants from coming in direct contact with the clay or raku glaze.
Better yet, use silk plants and flowers. Then enjoy this marvelous artwork!
